What We Did

This project formed part of Shropshire Council’s ambition to create sustainable education provision with future school expansions and comprised the construction of a new five-classroom block to form a state-of-the-art teaching hub at Meole Brace School.

The Vanguard Building was designed to ensure Net Zero Operational Carbon and was built to achieve the internationally respected Passivhaus standard. It also achieved a BREEAM Excellent rating.

Davies Partnership were the appointed MEP Consultant for the scheme with our Sustainability team advising on the Zero Carbon and Passivhaus requirements. This included bespoke detailing in relation to the building fabric, cold bridging, and junctions to achieve the Passivhaus criteria and low air permeability criteria.

The project won the ‘Net Zero Award’ at the Constructing Excellence Midlands Awards 2022 before going on to win the first ever National Constructing Excellence ‘Net Zero Award’ at the National Awards in London.
