23 affordable new homes were built on the former site of The Shakespeare pub in Southport. The homes consisted of 15 one-bedroom apartments and 8 two-bedroom homes and although sad to see a local landmark go, the project provided much needed affordable housing to help tackle the regions housing problem. Having had its doors last open in 2013 and derelict ever since, the opportunity could not be missed by One Vision Housing, part of the Sovini group. With its obvious impact on locals of the area, the scheme was designed to be built in traditional Victorian style in order to be in keeping with the street. Several of the flats were designed, and purpose built for accessibility with lift access to each floor as well as wet room installations.
Calderpeel Architects and Curtins were other members of the design team on this project ready to hand over to OVH. Carroll Build were the main contractors.
