This project is part of a £27M refurbishment plan for the high rise housing stock. The overall strategy to improve the asset involved the demolition of some tower blocks. The seven retained blocks underwent major refurbishment works, and the M&E services played an important role in ensuring residents have an excellent standard of facilities. In fact all the apartments had to meet the Decent Homes recommendations. Together with providing a high level of user satisfaction, the operating costs of the services also played a major role in reducing maintenance and energy expenditure. The client wanted to look at all technologies that offered sustainable or energy saving benefits. Some design challenges were experienced as would be expected in refurbishing buildings of this type and age.
